John Raytek did a little research and found out that the last time the RussianRiverValley suffered as many frosts in a spring as 2008 did was in 1943. For his chardonnay Raytek works with all whole clusters and leaves the wine to rest on its lees, without stirring or racking, for 18 months before bottling. As with all producers in the region Raytek's production is way off in '08, and there isn't much wine to begin with. Starting with the 2009 vintage there will be a Ritchie Vineyard bottling of chardonnay, sourced from a block of 40-year-old vines planted to a Wente clone.
