Bibiana Gonzalez Rave's 2012s capture all of the potential I sensed last year when I first tasted them from barrel. One of the most talented and promising winemakers of her generation, Gonzalez Rave has been on a tear of late. In addition to Cattleya, which is her own project, Gonzalez Rave is turning out striking Chardonnays and Pinots at Wayfarer, Jayson Pahlmeyer's Sonoma Coast project, and Bordeaux-inspired whites at Shared Notes, which she makes with her husband, Jeff Pisoni. Cattleya takes the name of the national flower of Colombia, where Gonzalez Rave was born and raised. All three of these wines are under 100 cases in production, but they are well worth seeking out.

Bibiana Gonzalez Rave, a native of Colombia, knew she wanted to make wine at the age of 14. Rave studied winemaking in Bordeaux, then embarked on a series of internships in France and the US. Three years as winemaker at Lynmar Estate followed. Cattleya, named after the Colombian national flower, is Gonzalez Rave's own project. The first wines I have tasted from Cattleya are drop-dead gorgeous. There is no doubt Bibiana Gonzalez Rave is a winemaker to watch for the future.
