If any winery embodies contemporary winemaking in San Rafael, it’s Bodegas Bianchi. Founded in the late 1920s by Italian immigrant and oenologist Enzo Bianchi, the family’s fourth generation now owns the winery, while a professional board oversees day-to-day operations. Bianchi harvests from their own vineyards, including Asti, which has been in production since the 1950s, and other plots in the higher, alluvial soils of the oasis. In the 1990s, Bianchi successfully expanded into the production of sparkling wines for the local market, subsequently converting to an export model. Signature lines like Enzo Bianchi, Particular and Famiglia Bianchi reflect this evolution. In 2018, Bianchi opened a second winery, Enzo Bianchi, in Los Chacayes, under the guidance of Silvio Alberto. Enzo Bianchi focuses on a flagship portfolio (the IV Generación line) and experiments with amphora-aging to explore new flavors. Currently, the Bianchi team is also developing a range of organic wines.
