Brad McLeroy, who entered the wine world via the retail route in Kansas City, moved to the Willamette Valley in 1994 and worked for the next six years as cellarmaster at Domaine Drouhin before launching Ayres with his wife's family in 2000. The Ayres vineyard now comprises almost 40 acres, from which McLeroy now produces four bottlings of Pinot Noir in a typical vintage. McLeroy’s wines show a distinctly light touch but they possess very good depth and flavor intensity as well. They also age gracefully, as recent bottles of the 2005 and 2006 Pioneer, both still full of life, have proved to me.
