These are three gorgeous wines from Henri Giraud that include a new Champagne in the range, the Hommage a Pinot Noir, which replaces the Hommage a François Hemart. I was quite struck, in a positive sense, by the vibrancy in these Champagnes. For many years, Giraud was noted for Champagnes of tremendous opulence. Part of that, of course, has to do with being based in Aÿ, where Pinots are naturally rich. But the Giraud Champagnes also had a strong oak signature. Those qualities are much less evident today. There is plenty of depth to these Champagnes, but also more freshness and much better oak integration. Because of the current pandemic, I was only able to taste a few wines in the lineup, but will follow up with additional notes as soon as I have a chance to taste the rest of the range.
