The young 2023s from Kapcsándy are, quite simply, some of the very best wines I have ever tasted here. Louis Kapcsándy Jr. has done a terrific job in stewarding his family’s property following the passing of patriarch Lou Kapcsándy Sr. in late 2021. The 2023s capture all the early promise of this cool, late-ripening year. Vintage 2022 presented many more challenges, but the winemaking team handled those well. Labor Day heat spikes were more problematic for Merlot because it ripens earlier. The decision to wait on the Cabernets, which were picked later after grapes had rehydrated and retreated in Brix following rain, paid off handsomely.
