This is a solid set of new and upcoming releases from Ryan Zepaltas. Overall, the 2013s are quite a bit stronger than the 2012s I tasted last year. Zepaltas is among the producers who prefers to pick on the earlier side, which gives his wines notable energy and focus. At times, I feel the wines lack a little bit of depth. More importantly, the choice of sugar levels and harvest dates has to be matched to site. My overall impression is that at times Zepaltas is asking some of his vineyards to produce a style of wine for which they are not ideally suited.
