I was quite impressed with the wines I tasted from Zaca Mesa this year. Quality is on the upswing under the direction of Eric Mohseni and Kristin Bryden, which is great to see given the natural potential of this site. The 2014 reds show the influence of the drought in their intense, dark fruit and tightly wound personalities. All of these wines will benefit from at least a few more months in bottle. What Zaca Mesa needs next is a production facility that might allow these wines to be bottled with less or no fining or filtration at all. Also tasted: 2014 Roussanne Estate Vineyard.
