Technically operating just outside the AVA line with estate holdings right on the border, Wrath is a dependable house for bold, intensely flavored Pinot Noirs that are still naturally reflective of site. Sabrine Rodems has been making the wines here for 20 years. Her approach to the Wrath estate Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays is painstaking and tedious, vinifying each clone from each property separately, then blending after élevage to have the utmost control over how every final wine represents its place. Let’s say—it’s working. Her 2022s are expressive wines on the larger-scale side of things, all harvested after the Labor Day heat but not suffering any apparent stress. The 2022 Pinot from the original San Saba Vineyard is an absolute rockstar.
