Since he took the reins at his family’s estate in Oberemmel in 2010, Maximilian von Kunow has enjoyed a string of good vintages to launch his career. He was even able to cast off the difficult 2013 harvest with a shrug of his shoulders, producing some of the finest Rieslings from the Saar. Von Kunow is always adept at bottling invigorating Kabinetts and Spätleses, but it was the quality of the off-dry Kanzemer Höreck that surprised me this year. It was among the finest wines of this category bottled in all of Germany in 2013.
