Vincent Fritzsche produced two exciting vintages of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from 2021 and 2022, along with one of the freshest and most inviting Tempranillos from the Rogue Valley. Fritzsche spoke in detail about the challenges of the 2022 vintage, including the decision not to bottle any wines from the Armstrong Vineyard in Ribbon Ridge. “There was simply something wrong with the tannins. Achieving balanced ripeness from cluster to cluster was nearly impossible.” In this vintage, selection was key, and it’s refreshing to witness producers taking a stand to uphold quality standards. Otherwise, the bottlings from the Eola-Amity Hills are fantastic. Comparing them to the more fruit-driven 2021s is quite interesting. I can’t say that one vintage is more successful than the other, as they both show unique qualities.
