In 1976, Luis Felipe Edwards bought an old vineyard in the Puquillay area. Since then, Edwards has never stopped planting new vines and producing wine. Today, the estate covers over 2,000 hectares under vine from Cauquenes in Maule to Casablanca in Valparaíso. I visited the vineyard on Cerro Puquillay, a dramatic scenery of patchwork plots reaching about 130 hectares on the eponymous mountain. It’s one of the most stunning vineyards in Chile. Under Eugenio Cox's and his team's technical direction, Edwards produces a classical Chilean style of ripe, indulgent reds. The portfolio focuses on mass-consumption wines. With a certain degree of indecision, Edwards is betting on lighter reds that are in an early stage of development, meaning a new approach. On the other hand, the coastal whites are stand-outs.
