Consistency is the name of the game at Vilmart. Year in and year out, these are some of the most polished, sophisticated wines in Champagne. Laurent Champs and his son, Thomas, craft Champagnes of delicacy and finesse. All the Champagnes are done in oak, but wood is always expertly used.

Vilmart remains a reference point for Champagnes that are all about elegance and refinement. I tasted through a number of new releases and also had a chance to revisit some wines from last year that showed poorly at the offices of Vilmart’s US importer. Of note is the new Grand Cellier Oenothèque T15, a late release of the Grand Cellier. The 2013 Les Blanches Voies is stellar, but the 2015 Coeur de Cuvée is even more impressive given the challenges of that year. As always, the wines are vinified and aged in oak, with the wood used discretely to shape Champagnes that are all finesse.
