Gianfranco Gallo is one of just a few growers in Friuli with a truly global vision of the wine world. Not surprisingly, his are some of the finest wines in the region. Over the last few vintages the Vie di Romans whites seem to have become more finessed, which is a huge positive. There are a number of highlights among these new and current releases. Broadly speaking, I find the 2011 Chardonnays more complete than the 2010s, while the opposite is true of the Sauvignons. The estate's Malvasia/Friulano/Riesling blend Flor di Uis remains my personal favorite.
