Valdipiatta has long been known for making some of the most powerful wines in Montepulciano. These new releases deliver plenty of intensity, but also suggest a move towards a style that balances nuance with depth. There is plenty to like here, that much is clear. Both 2013 Vino Nobiles are strong, although I have a slight preference for the straight bottling over to the top of the line Vigna d'Alfiero.
