One of the most unfairly under-the-radar producers in the region, Don Burns’ Turtle Rock Vineyards (named for the large rounded “turtle rocks” that are found throughout the region) produces highly perfumed, full-flavored but balanced wines that bear the distinctive mark of Burns’ longtime association with Saxum’s Justin Smith. A local who grew up in the heart of the Willow Creek District, Burns makes around 1,500 cases of wine per year in addition to being a partner in and working at Tin City’s WineShine Distillery, which produces top-notch brandies from the first-run juice of wines from local wineries such as Clos Solène, Saxum and Denner.
