Winemaker Peter Heitz showed me a range of fabulous reds at Turnbull. As outstanding as the best wines are in this range, readers should also pay close attention to the Napa Valley and Reserve Cabernets. The Turnbull family's vineyard holdings include Amoenus, Weitz and Fortuna. The fruit from those sites that does not make it into the top bottlings forms the core for the more modest wines in the range. In tasting, the Turnbull Cabernets are lush and powerful without being overdone.
