The '97s are the most impressive group of releases from Turley since the '94s. With few exceptions I found the new vintage brighter and more aromatically compelling than the '96s, despite the fact that alcohol levels in a number of the '97s are freakishly high. The fruit was completely ripe but not overripe and fermentations went very slowly, reported winemaker Ehren Jordan, who bottled most of the '97s in December without fining or filtration. Several of the following wines, including the Hayne zinfandel and petite syrah, will not be released until next fall.
