Trapiche is one of the most significant wineries in Argentina, in terms of both volume and quality. It was also the last winery I was able to visit before the pandemic struck. The big news is that Daniel Pi, the incumbent oenologist for several years, has handed over to Sergio Casé, a talented oenologist with a passion for detail. The other key fact is that the renewed focus on terroir, which began in 2017, has grown remarkably precise, leaving concentration to one side. The new vineyards in Chapadmalal, on the Atlantic coast, meanwhile, are growing, with new plantations of white grapes.
