Officially Peter Jost, recently turned 65, has retired. Cecilia Jost is now the managing director of this estate, but Peter continues to support his daughter in all of her new projects, which include a first pinot blanc vineyard, further development of pinot noir and a more intense focus on exports. Part of this evolution is driven by changing weather patterns, which have allowed Hahnenhof to make ever better dry rieslings; part is the product of things Cecilia has learned abroad. If her quality continues to evolve along the lines laid down over the past two vintages, this estate has the potential to rival Matthias Muller at the head of the pack.
