The wines of Silvio Nardi are never shy and thrive on a core of primary fruit. Whether it’s the classic Brunello, which is sourced from all throughout the 36 estate parcels located around the town of Montalcino, or one of their two cru wines, Manachiara (the eastern location that made them famous) and Poggio Doria (a new release from the estate’s original northwest vineyards in Casale del Bosco), what you can always depend on is balanced intensity. Each of the wines see a year or more in French tonneaux (½ used for the classic), which is then followed up by another year in Slavonian Botti. It’s impossible to ignore the quality that’s in each bottle, and although labeled international in style, they are some of the most widely loved wines coming out of Montalcino today. The secret to success is the ability of the Nardi family to maintain an unmistakably stamp of terroir within the enveloping robe of spicy dark fruits. Simply taste the 2015 Manachiara to see what I mean - but hold onto your seat.
