2005 Yantra

Tenuta dei Sette Cieli was undoubtedly one of the most pleasant discoveries of my recent trip to Italy. The estate's high-density vineyards are planted at roughly 400 meters above sea level, very much the exception rather than the rule in Bolgheri. The higher altitude of the vineyards results in wider swings between daytime and evening temperature, yielding wines of notable finesse. The terrain also contains a higher amount of galestro, the clay and stone formation which is more typical of Chianti Classico and parts of Montalcino than Bolgheri. The wines are made under the direction of talented consulting oenologist Attilio Pagli. Although this is only the second vintage for Tenuta dei Sette Cieli the wines clearly have the potential to turn into something special. This will be a fascinating property to follow over the next several years. Currently the estate does not have a US importer but hopefully that will change soon.
