Joey Tensley’s bottled 2016s showed pretty much as I expected based on the barrel samples I saw last year. In general, the 2016s are strong across the board, although elevated ripeness in some wines suggests that residual sugar may be bumping up against the threshold of where sweetness is perceptible. In addition to the bottled 2016s, I also tasted the 2017s from barrel, but those wines did not show well, as can happen with barrel samples, hence their exclusion here.

According to Joey Tensley the main difference between 2016 and 2015 is yields. There was a bit more water in 2016 and a better set, while poor weather during bloom in 2015 created a high amount of shatter and led to minuscule yields that also resulted in practical challenges in fermenting small amounts of fruit. In tasting, the 2016s certainly show greater freshness than the 2015s.
