Fabio Tassi's Brunellos are sleek, racy and decidedly fruit-driven. That approach was not without its challenges in 2011, a vintage in which sugars were naturally high. As a result, the 2011s are a bit forward and likely to offer their best drinking sooner rather than later. Tassi remains one of the key players in Montalcino. His wine shop in the town castle is a central gathering point. More recently, Tassi has opened an informal winebar right across the street, where, incidentally, I enjoyed a delicious meal a few weeks ago.
