This estate belongs to the majestic monastery that crowns the hilltop across the river from Krems and casts its eye on almost all of the vineyards in the appellation. The wine sector of the operation is managed by Fritz Miesbauer, who also runs the winery for the city of Krems. The Catholic church has always had access to choice vineyards and the monastery's 26 hectares are certainly some of the better old plots on the south side of the river. The wines themselves are generally a touch richer, and more baroque, than those from the rocky soils in Krems.
