Bernhard Stadlmann noted the rather late budburst in 2023—a return to a former normal after years of earlier vegetation. Regular rain in spring helped the vines to withstand a dry period in summer in June and then again later in August, even though it also necessitated intense canopy management in spring. Rainfall in early September initially prompted worries about rot but in fact helped to stabilize the vines without any explosions in sugar accumulation. The September harvest occurred in dry weather and yielded healthy grapes.
A change in DAC regulations meant that Stadlmann’s former single-variety wines called Anning are now named after the village appellation Gumpoldskirchen, which covers the communes of Gumpoldskirchen, Pfaffstätten and Traiskirchen.
