Like his neighbor Ernie Loosen, Johannes Selbach understands only too well that wines—rieslings above all—are made to drink, not to command awe in tastings For this reason, his are generally crisp, pure and delicately light. Hardly have you opened a bottle, it is empty. Yes, the 2009s were a tad richer, but the 2010s are again akin to the eminently drinkable 2008s—and will certainly age equally well if not better. In terms of sheer value, look to the affable Riesling Incline that he makes under the Selbach label from purchased grapes.
