When I popped by for my latest visit last summer, I found that all the 2015 wines were still on their lees, and so I tasted only the 2014s. The estate’s most famous wines are made from grapes grown in the Clos St. Théobald on the Rangen Grand Cru, but a hailstorm hit Thann (the town nearest the Grand Cru) at the end of July. The vines never recovered fully, according to Alexandre Schoffit. This led to a decision to declassify the Pinot Gris and Gewürz Rangen into their Edelzwicker. Even worse, what little Muscat was produced in 2014 was deemed so uninteresting that it was sold it off as bulk wine.
