I was quite impressed with the wines I tasted from Scarlett, which was previously known as McGah Family Cellars. The McGahs are known for having co-founded the Oakland Raiders and for their estate vineyard in Rutherford. Mike Smith makes the wines in a style that emphasizes fruit and forward appeal, but with less concentration and overall power than he favors for the wines he makes under his own labels. These expressive, open-knit reds are sure to find many admirers. Scarlett also makes a Sauvignon Blanc that, while good, is less distinctive than the reds. Also tasted: 2014 Sauvignon Blanc, 2013 Sauvignon Blanc.
