Salvioni remains one of the crown jewels in Montalcino. A recent vertical of the estate's Brunello back to the inaugural 1985 was a poignant reminder of just how special these artisan, handcrafted wines are, even in less heralded vintages. In addition to the 2011 Brunello, readers will also see a rare appearance of the estate's Rosso di Montalcino. From time to time, one or two casks are declassified to Rosso, but in 2014, Giulio Salvioni and his daughter, Alessia, made the decision to declassify all of their Brunello to Rosso. These remain some of the most distinctive, pure wines being made in Montalcino today.
