Rusack is located in the heart of Ballard Canyon, but most of the wines are Chardonnays and Pinots made from vineyards in other parts of the county, some of them quite far away. The focus on Burgundian varieties makes it hard to think about Rusack within the context of Ballard Canyon. To put things in perspective, Stolpman lies next to Rusack, while Jonata and Larner are essentially a stone's throw away. In addition to these wines, I also tasted two 2012 Zinfandels, the first a new bottling from the estate's vineyards in Ballard Canyon the second from estate vineyards on Catalina Island, but both still works in progress.
