Tom Rochioli is one of the veterans in the Russian River, but he has the boyish enthusiasm of someone half his age. The passion for land, vineyards, wine and people comes through loud and clear, even in a virtual tasting. The 2019s are very much in line with the last few vintages, meaning that the wines have a bit more energy and less heft than they did a decade ago. I was really impressed with the 2019s. The wines feel a bit lighter than the 2018s at the same stage, but that is not especially remarkable in the Russian River, where the wines have plenty of their own natural exuberance.
