2009 Riesling Kiedricher Turmberg Spätlese

Although few producers manage the range from kabinett to trockenbeerenauslese quite as well as Weil, what this estate bottled in 2009 is mind-boggling. There is not a single ugly duckling in the lot. Without doubt, the dry rieslings here continue to gain in stature, supported by what Wilhelm Weil calls his three premier crus, with the Turmberg chasing at the grand cru Grafenberg's heels in 2009. As always, though, it is the nobly sweet rieslings that leave me short of breath. The Grafenberg Spatlese is the best of its ilk this vintage and the trio of eisweins and TBAs stands head and shoulders above everything else from the Rheingau, crowned by the 100-point Grafenberg, which is my wine of the vintage in Germany. When you see the baby blue color of this label, you can buy blind.
