Given the severity of fires in the Santa Cruz Mountains, I expected to see a sharply reduced lineup this year from Rhys, but there are still plenty of wines among these new releases. Fires were most severe around the winery, so there are no vineyard designates from this part of the Santa Cruz Mountains. Mt. Pajaro, which is in the appellation but further south, was less affected. Anderson Valley was also spared the worst. Last but certainly not least, the sparkling wines, done in collaboration with Champagne's Rodolphe Peters, are both impressive and promising.
