Billo and Pinot Naravane, who only launched their Rasa label with the 2007 vintage, now own 28 acres in the Rocks district. They will plant 3 of them next spring and 3 or 4 a year after that--to red and white Rhône grapes and a bit of Cabernet.
In 2012, winemaker Billo Naravane decided to conduct a longer 30 months of élevage, as he found the fruit to be especially primary. Naravane does a gentle extraction during vinification and presses early, as he's not a believer in post-fermentation maceration. He racks only as needed, generally on a barrel-by-barrel basis, and this helps to explain why his wines are often distinctly primary in the months following bottling.
