University enology professor Luigi Moio has succeeded in establishing a world-class winery where the typical Campanian cultivars Fiano, Greco, Falanghina and Aglianico rule. The wines have always been made in a rich, ripe style, though Moio has clearly taken his foot off the accelerator in recent vintages, so that whites are now lighter-styled and more refined than ever before (for example, they don’t go through a full malo anymore). His Taurasis remain some of the richest and thickest of the region, but are also imbued with noteworthy refinement and polish. That said, his best wine each year is almost always the Greco di Tufo Giallo d’Arles, made with grapes grown in the Santa Paolina subzone of Tufo, the single best place to grow Greco in Italy.
