Paolo De Marchi is best known for the wines he makes at Isole e Olena, but he has a soft spot for the wines he makes at Proprieta Sperino, in his native Piedmont. I have been following these wines for several years and quality seems to have improved markedly over that period. These mid-weight, gracious Nebbiolo-based reds capture all of the charm of the northern reaches of Piedmont.
