Philippe Pacalet is among the winemakers who compare 2009 to 1959. Pacalet works exclusively with leased vineyards across a number of appellations. Biodynamic farming and non-interventionalist winemaking are the rule. The village level wines were all bottled in December, 2010. I tasted the rest of The 2009s from barrel. I also had a chance to sample a selection of 2008s. Based on the wines I tasted, 2008 looks like a very interesting vintage here as well.

Pacalet considers 2009 to be a good vintage but not a great one because so many wines are marked by the warmth of the growing season. "I make wines of terroir, not wines of the vintage," he explained. He began harvesting on September 12 and did no chaptalization, as potential alcohols were mostly 12.8% to 13.4%, with the Charmes-Chambertin at 14%. "The challenge has been to keep the wines fresh," he told me, adding that he rotated the barrels twice instead of racking the wines. The malos were finished by last December, and Pacalet plans to bottle the wines early.
