Peter Jakob is certainly one of the most unusual personalities in the German wine trade. Obsessed by quality, he takes better care of his vineyards than most growers-and relentlessly pursues wild yeast fermentations. However, in all his visionary fervor, he has changed styles so often over the past few years that it is sometimes difficult to judge where he is going. The new vintage shows his wines in a closed, reductive style, accentuated by his change to screwcaps. All probably have better potential for development in bottle than the marks given here might lead the reader to believe.
