Old-timer James Cahill, who spent 19 years at Soter Vineyards, is now the owner of the North Valley Vineyards project, which he helped Tony Soter set up in 2012. The 2018s are the first wines released under the new regime, and they are excellent, showing surprising freshness and backbone for Pinots from a hot year. Given Cahill’s long and consistent winemaking history, I have no doubt that the quality of the wines here, which has always been high, will be maintained. I’m sure the wines will be age-worthy as well, based on his track record of making such a style at Soter.
