In 1919 Antonio Franco, the grandfather of current Nino Franco owner Primo Franco, founded the estate. He was a négociant and used to buy and sell white and red wines at a time when nobody believed in buying vineyards. Hence, today the estate owns only 3.5 hectares (8.6 acres), but the key to the estate’s deserved success has been the establishment of long term relationships with quality-first minded growers. Nino Franco buys grapes mainly from Valdobbiadene, as he rightly prefers the higher hillside vineyard locations, but also buys some from Conegliano, which add body and power to the finished wines. An important characteristic of Nino Franco is that the estate makes as many as three to four Rive wines, depending on the vintage. The estate produces roughly 1 million bottles annually.
