This winery moved from the tiny village of Priel in the Krems valley to a newly renovated location in Senftenberg in 2004, where the family now offers visitors a hotel and restaurant. The beautifully restored farm estate, located in the middle of a vineyard, dates from the Middle Ages. The high extract widely obtained in 2004 proved ideal for the precise style of Martin Nigl's wines, which are defined by vivid but well-integrated acidity and very minerally, pure fruit. It was necessary to let the fruit hang even as the eventual crop size suffered, but the results rewarded the extra harvesting effort and risk.(Terry Theise/Michael Skurnik Wines, Syosset, NY) Also recommended: 2004 Sauvignon Blanc (87), 2004 Gruner Veltliner Gartling (85), 2004 Gruner Veltliner Freiheit (86).
