Two thousand thirteen was another commercially difficult vintage for Nicolas Rossignol, as the damaging hail limited production to between 8 and 12 hectoliters per hectare in most of his vineyards. "Pommard and Savigny were practically destroyed," he told me: the tiny quantities of Pommard premier cru were combined into one bottling, and there is no premier cru Savigny in 2013. In sum, said Rossignol, production was down 70% in 2013, vs. 75% in 2012 and 60% in 2014. Rossignol completely destemmed some of his wines owing to the hail damage, especially those from higher Volnay sites. The 2013s were racked into cuves shortly before my mid-November visit.
