Neumayer began harvesting on September 7, but as the first fruit came in and the weather cooled, he very quickly applied the brakes and waited a couple of weeks for ripeness to catch up. In the end, when it came to riesling, all but one parcel was harvested in November. For the most part, these wines have retained a refreshing natural acidity that is unusually pronounced for the vintage (even if not that high on paper) and is further underlined by the wines' complete dryness. After so many years of recommending the wines of Neumayer and drinking them myself, it is nice at last to see that there is a U. S. importer. (Weygandt-Metzler Importing, Unionville, PA) Also recommended: 2003 Der Wein vom Stein, 2003 Weissburgunder Der Wein vom Stein, 2003 Sauvignon Blanc Ikon.
