Luc Morlet describes 2018 as a year with a late bloom, an even fruit set and moderate temperatures. Flavors developed ahead of sugars, which led to wines with slightly lower alcohols than in the past. In tasting, the 2018s impress for their nuance and delineation. The wines also feel less extracted than in the past. It will be interesting to see if these qualities are a reflection of the 2018 vintage, or if they also represent a slight shift in style. Lastly, the 2018 Cabernets are the first wines Luc and Jodie Morlet made entirely from their own vineyards, a hugely important achievement for a young estate.
