Dan Lee (no relation to Adam Lee) is one of the early winemaking pioneers of the Santa Lucia Highlands, starting Morgan Winery in 1982. He’s approaching his 44th harvest for the label—a true feat. Lee purchased the site for Double L Vineyard in 1996 as fallow land, and to this day, he maintains it as the only completely organically certified vineyard in the region. His commitment to the utmost sustainable practices, regardless of cost, is admirable. “We do it out of respect for the property. We thought, ‘If we cherish this land, let’s not tread on it heavily.’” The Morgan wines are affordable, accessible and charming, year after year. The 2023 Riesling from Double L is notably balanced compared to some overly sweet editions in recent years.
