Peter Vinding-Diers of Montecarrubo continues to strive for Syrah purity, a sense of place and low alcohol in the extreme southeast of Sicily, with great success. These new vintages rely on energy and verve more than power, coming across as spicy and zesty in character. Readers shouldn’t expect to find overripe fruit sensations or a shroud of new oak that might hide the faults of lesser fruit here. This lineup is all about transparency. The 2022s are coming along beautifully, displaying lovely complexity and structure to promote further cellaring, while the 2023s (tasted from barrel) are all about elegance.
