I love the energy and radiance of Livio Sassetti - Pertimali's Brunello. Every time I come across these wines in a tasting amongst their peers, they stand out for their character, complexity and core of brilliant acidity. These Brunellos are quite appealing despite their youthful structure and tension. The Pertimali portfolio of Brunello is made up entirely of estate vineyards on the hill of Montosoli. In 2020, there's a new single-vineyard wine, the "Pertimali." It hails from their most northern parcel at 350 meters, replanted 12 years ago in heavy clay soils. The 2020 Pertimali showed beautifully, especially for its first vintage—I'm excited to revisit it in upcoming years. The 2020 estate Brunello and single-vineyard Mulino are also both in fine form, but the unequivocal success of the current releases is the 2019 Riserva. I'm not convinced that the Riserva treatment helped more wines than it hurt in 2019, but in the case of Pertimali, the 2019 Riserva is a smashing success.
