According to Laurent Lignier, the very small crop in 2010--ranging from 20 to 40 hectoliters per hectare according to cuvee--reached good ripeness. "The 2008 grapes were actually healthier, but only about 2% to 5% of the fruit had to be eliminated in 2010," he told me. None of the wines had yet been racked at the time of my visit. Incidentally, Laurent noted that there was almost a month's difference in harvest dates between 2010 and 2009: they started picking on September 30 in 2010 due to a flowering that lasted until June 20, and began in 2011 on September 3. And there's a significant difference in pHs between these two years: 3.4 to 3.5 for the 2010s following the malolactic fermentations, vs. 3.6 to 3.7 for the 2009s. The Ligniers have supplemented their line-up of wines with a number of new negociant bottlings in 2010.
