When I visited the sprawling Les Vins de Vienne facility in Chavannay, commercial director Marie-Mélodie Condette told me that she believes the 2016s “show a lot of the elegance of the 2013s but with more power, not to the level of the 2015s.” Condette thinks the 2016s have put on more weight and gained structure in recent months. She pointed out that “the tannins are very harmonious with the fruit, even now,” which suggests “they might not ever go through a closed stage or, if they do, it won’t be for long.”
